Q: The claim form is for 2021 and 2022. What about 2023 and 2024?
A: Gridley Unified School District began recognizing Juneteenth as a paid holiday beginning in 2023, so the form is only for 2021 and 2022. Once the District recognizes a particular day as a paid holiday, working on a holiday will be paid as specified in the GUSD/CSEA Master Agreement.
Q: Isn’t paid time during a holiday earned at 1.5 times the hours worked?
A: This settlement provides for paid time at a rate of 1.0 times the actual hours worked on June 18, 2021 and June 20, 2022.

A: Eligible employees for the June 2021 claim include those who meet the following criteria:

- Be a CSEA member or a member of the CSEA Retiree Unit; and
- Worked or used available paid leaves (vacation, sick time, comp time or floating holiday) on June 18, 2021 and was in paid status during any portion of the day preceding or succeeding June 18, 2021; and
- Held a position in the CSEA represented bargaining unit on June 18, 2021; and
- Currently holds a position within the CSEA represented bargaining unit; and
- Must submit the claim form by February 17, 2025; and
- Sign and return an employee waiver after receiving your eligibility determination.
Eligible employees for the June 2022 claim include those who meet the following criteria:
- Be a CSEA member or a member of the CSEA Retiree Unit; and
- Worked or used available paid leaves (vacation, sick time, comp time or floating holiday) on June 20, 2022 and was in paid status during any portion of the day preceding or succeeding June 20, 2022; and
- Held a position in the CSEA represented bargaining unit on June 20, 2022; and
- Currently holds a position within the CSEA represented bargaining unit; and
- Must submit the claim form by February 17, 2025; and
- Sign and return an employee waiver after receiving your eligibility determination.
Employees who did not work on June 18, 2021 or June 20, 2022, or were not on an approved paid leave will not be eligible. Late claims will not be accepted.
Q: How will GUSD be processing the settlements?
A: GUSD will review internal payroll and leave records after the settlement claim deadline to determine eligibility for compensation and how much is owed. Employees will receive their eligibility determinations and compensation amounts via correspondence sent by US mail to the employee's last known address on file with Human Resources, on or about March 31, 2025.
After employees receive the eligibility determination and compensation amount notification, an employee waiver accompanying the notification must be signed in order to receive the determined compensation. Waivers must be submitted timely by the date specified on the notice. Late waivers will not be accepted.
Q: What is the settlement amount?
A: GUSD will compensate all eligible employees/retirees who timely submit a claim form and sign the required waiver with the actual hourly wages the employee earned on June 18, 2021 and/or June 20, 2022, less customary and regular payroll deductions. Stipend payments and any other additional add-on payments are not included.
Q: Will raises from 2023 or 2024 be applied to my claim funds?
A: No. Employees will be compensated the exact hourly wages earned on June 18, 2021 and/or June 20, 2022, and no negotiated changes in compensation will apply to the settlement funds.
Q: Can I get my money early?
A: No. GUSD will process all claims and send out determinations and payments at the same time. All claims will be processed together and are anticipated to be processed on the June 2025 variable.
