Norovirus

Norovirus is a very contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea. Anyone can get infected and sick with norovirus. It spreads easily from infected person to others, especially in school classroom settings. The best way to prevent the spread of illness is to STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK. Children should stay home from school for 48 hours AFTER symptoms are gone.

Norovirus symptoms:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain

Prevention:

  • Wash your hands often: 
    • scrub them for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap
    • especially after using the restroom
    • always before eating, preparing, or handling food
  • Wash the soiled clothes and linens immediately with detergent and hot water at the maximum available cycle length then machine dry them at the highest heat setting
  • Clean and disinfect the entire area with a bleach-based household cleaner immediately after someone vomits or has diarrhea
